Terms And Conditions

The terms and conditions of the 2027 Sabri Ülker Award for Future Science Leaders are as follows:

1. The Sabri Ülker Foundation welcomes applications from scientists of all nationalities, backgrounds, institutions, and research settings, provided that they meet the eligibility criteria.

2. Candidates from academia, industry, public institutions, non-profit organizations, or applied research environments who are younger than 45 years old (born on or after January 1, 1982) and who have demonstrated independent research leadership with measurable scientific and/or public health impact are eligible for the Sabri Ülker Award for Future Science Leaders.

For the purpose of eligibility, documented career interruptions may be considered. These may include parental leave, caregiving responsibilities, serious illness, compulsory service, conflict, forced displacement, or other significant circumstances that affected the candidate’s research career. Applicants requesting an age-limit exception must provide a brief written explanation and relevant supporting documentation through the application portal. The Foundation reserves the right to assess such requests on a case-by-case basis.

3.    Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent doctoral degree.

4.    The applicant’s research must be directly relevant to the fields of nutrition, food science, or their direct impact on public health. The work should demonstrate transformative impact or strong potential for transformative impact in its field of investigation, including translational, interdisciplinary, or applied research with real-world relevance such as policy, clinical practice, food systems, population health, or broader public health outcomes.

5.    The award recognizes a specific, significant body of research or a discovery, not a lifetime achievement. The work should demonstrate originality, scientific rigor, and tangible or potential transformative impact on public health, policy, or practice.

6.    All application materials must be submitted in English via the official online portal, which will be available at: https://scienceaward.sabriulkerfoundation.org/en

7.    The award will be given to a single scientist. To be eligible, the candidate must have made a leading contribution to the submitted work, as evidenced by first-author, corresponding-author, senior-author, or equivalent lead-investigator status in the relevant publication(s), project outputs, or documented research contributions. In cases where first authorship or correspondence is shared, the candidate must first secure a signed agreement from the other contributor granting permission to seek recognition for the submitted collaborative research contribution. You may submit the document to the “Other Documents” section on the application page.

8.    The applicant is responsible for the accuracy of all the information provided in the submission documents.

9.    The deadline for all submissions, including the direct upload of recommendation letters by referees, is April 25, 2027, at 23:59 (GMT+3). Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

10.    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their work in an online session, followed by a question-and-answer session (Q&A) with the jury.

11.    Employees of the Sabri Ülker Foundation, members of its Science Committee, and Jury members or their relatives are not eligible to apply for the Sabri Ülker Award for Future Science Leaders.

12.    The prize for the winner of the Sabri Ülker Award for Future Science Leaders 2027 is USD 100,000 gross. The Award may be paid directly to the awardee or, where required by law, institutional policy, financial compliance rules, or payment procedures, through the awardee’s affiliated institution.

13.    The payment method, payment schedule, required documentation, and applicable deductions will be confirmed by the Foundation after the winner is selected. Unless otherwise determined by the Foundation, the Award will be paid after the completion of the required administrative, tax, compliance, and payment procedures.

14.    The award amount may be used in flexible ways to support the awardee’s continued research career and the further development of the awarded work. Eligible expenses may include research consumables, equipment, data collection or analysis costs, publication-related costs, travel and accommodation for international conferences or scientific events, training activities, collaboration visits, and other research-related expenses.

15.    The winner shall be responsible for all taxes, fees, social security payments, institutional deductions, bank charges, currency conversion costs, or other liabilities that may arise in Türkiye or elsewhere in connection with the Award. The Foundation may withhold taxes or make deductions where required by applicable law. The gross award amount should not be interpreted as a guaranteed net payment to the awardee.

16.    The awardee is expected to present the progress, research improvements, and outcomes enabled by the Award at the following year’s Sabri Ülker Award for Future Science Leaders ceremony or another platform designated by the Foundation.

17.    The award amount should be used within three years to support the awardee’s continued research career and the further development of the awarded work. The awardee will submit a final report at the end of this period, including the use of funds, scientific progress achieved, and the enhancement of the awarded project through the Award.

Diversity, Inclusion, And Accessibility

The Sabri Ülker Foundation welcomes applications from scientists of all nationalities, backgrounds, institutions, and research settings, provided that they meet the eligibility criteria. The Foundation encourages applications from candidates with diverse career paths, institutional contexts, and research environments.

Applicants who require reasonable accommodations during the application or selection process may contact the Foundation through the official application portal or designated contact address before the relevant deadline. Accommodation requests will be assessed confidentially and will not disadvantage the applicant during the evaluation process.

The Foundation is committed to ensuring that applications are evaluated fairly, consistently, and based on scientific merit, public health relevance, the applicant’s own contribution, and alignment with the published evaluation criteria.
