Professor John Mathers is Emeritus Professor of Human Nutrition and former Director of the Human Nutrition Research Centre at Newcastle University. His primary research focuses on understanding how dietary patterns influence the risk of age-related diseases such as heart disease, dementia, and cancer. He utilizes genomic and epigenomic approaches to uncover the mechanisms through which nutrition impacts cellular function and overall health. Professor Mathers has led major international studies, including the EU-funded Food4Me project, which explored personalized nutrition. He is a past President of the Nutrition Society, a Trustee of the British Nutrition Foundation, the Rank Prize, and the World Cancer Research Fund UK, and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Nutrition.
